Storytellers are one of our most popular Class B motorhomes for those who love boondocking, camping in remote locations, and generally taking the concept of adventuring to the max. Built on a Mercedes chassis, these camper vans allow you to experience luxury anywhere, but they’re certainly not for everyone.
Do you think a Storyteller might be right for you? If so, then let’s walk you through the pros and cons of some of our most popular models and floor plans.
Storyteller Overland Beast MODE AWD:
This camper van is wonderful for travelling across rugged terrain like sand or snow. Its diesel engine works with the signature AWD to create a van that can safely and easily access hard-to-reach locations. It’s also perfect for the doomsday preppers, featuring an M-Power energy system along with satellite radio, a fog lamp, and a solar panel that can be extended for up to 325 watts. It also has 103 ft of storage space, which is a surprising amount for such a low-profile van.
However, this is not a great option for anyone travelling with others. Despite its high-tech capabilities, the truth is that it just doesn’t have much space, and having multiple people in that space for an extended period of time is a sure path to cabin fever. If you’re only planning on using the van for short trips to get from place to place, that may be doable, but the prospect of multiple people living in this amount of space full-time is a bit daunting.

Storyteller Overland Dark MODE XO:
We know we said the Storyteller Beast Mode was perfect for preppers, but the Dark Mode is truly a dream for those who want to be prepared for anything. With its low-profile exterior, its lithium-based energy system and its large grey- and freshwater tanks, this van is perfect for getting out into the wilderness and staying for a while. Even if you’re not preparing for anything, this is a great option for people who just want to escape for a while; it has a full bathroom with a foldable shower and a large convertible bed system for plenty of living and sleeping space.
Storyteller camper vans only take diesel, which is great for an engine that has to move over roots and through snow. But it also means that fueling up will make a Storyteller a bit harder on your wallet than say, a travel trailer might be. If you plan on getting out in the wilderness, a Storyteller Dark Mode may be right for you, but it is an investment.

Storyteller Overland Beast MODE XO AWD:
This is the most luxurious version of the Storyteller. With a designated bathroom area featuring a toilet and a wet bath and much more living space than the other models, it would be great for a couple who loves to get outdoors, or a solo traveler with a pet. It also has the best navigation system and driving technology out of these three options. Active Brake Assist, Active Distance Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and many more features ensure that you’ll be safe on the road, and Intelligent Navigation ensures that you’ll know where you are when you’re off the road. This type of van would be perfect for a trip across America, or some other long-distance trip where travelers will be out exploring frequently.
Finally, this specific model has a two-part fold down bed which can create a workspace if only one side is folded down. This is a wonderfully creative concept, but it can become an issue for campers who just want to fall into bed at night. You'll have to make sure you're replacing all of your bedding before going to sleep.
Storyteller camper vans have been reviewed positively by almost every buyer we’ve asked. They may not be for everyone, but if you think a Storyteller van may be perfect for you, make sure to come view them with the friendly faces at Campers Inn!
