Florida National Parks and Forests
If you're traveling in Florida, you don't want to miss the opportunity to visit tour beautiful parks and forests, which are the perfect places to go RVing. The National Forests in Florida also manages the 1,400-mile Florida National Scenic Trail, one of eleven National Scenic Trails in the United States.
Everglades National Park
The almighty Everglades is arguabley one of the more beautiful parts of Florida. Encompassing most of the southern Florida region, and the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States, Everglades National Park is a natural area of international renown and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area is full of Florida's most exotic species and this is where you will find the widest variety of alligators and crocodiles.
Everglades National Park has two campgrounds, Long Pine Key and Flamingo. Long Pine Key Campground is about 6 miles from the Ernest Coe Visitor Center and the southeast entrance to the park, outside of Homestead. Flamingo Campground is by the visitor center of the same name on the south end of the park, and is set on Florida Bay. Both campgrounds accept tents and RVs.
Flamingo has 234 drive-in sites open to use by RVs, 55 of which are set on the waterfront. The campground is serviced by a pair of dump stations, flush toilets and cold water showers. Long Pine Key has 108 drive-in sites with flush toilets, water taps and a dump station, but no showers. Both campgrounds have areas with picnic tables and charcoal grills, but there are no hook-ups available anywhere in the park.
