How often do you daydream at work? How many times do you imagine the fluorescent lights changing into sunlight, and the walls melting away to reveal a spectacular landscape? How amazing would it be to spend your days touring the country and exploring all of its treasures?
Believe it or not, many RVers are able to ditch the office and travel full time while still earning a living. Some run their own business. Others connect remotely or work seasonally at a campground or nature park. While it takes careful planning and forethought, it’s an opportunity open to those with an itch for adventure and a heart full of wanderlust.
If this sounds appealing, we have compiled five great websites to help you learn more about living and working on the road.
Workamper is a job board for people who work out of their RVs. It is a great source of opportunities ranging from seasonal work at campsites to freelance gigs for travelers on the go. Jobs are posted from employers all across the country, so RVers can support themselves are they explore from state to state.
The website also features a variety of educational resources, including webinars, articles, sample forms and a bi-monthly magazine. Basic membership is free and includes access to job listings, articles, webinars and their digital magazine. Gold membership at $47.00/year includes tools like a resume builder and more in-depth information about employers and job opportunities.
Technomadia is a blog written by full-time RVers, Cherie Ve Ard and Chris Dunphy. They are travel and technology enthusiasts, and their website is a rich repository of information about living and working in an RV. Their advice runs the gamut from the basic logistics, like budgeting and managing your mail, to trip suggestions and reviews of RV gear.
Check out their Full Time RVing Resource center for an extensive compilation of their articles and guides, including their introductory series, “No Excuses: Go Nomadic”. Because working on the road means staying connected at all times, their sister site, RV Mobile Internet, offers a comprehensive guide to accessing the internet in your RV.
Marc and Julie Bennet joined the RV life as a working couple in 2014. Their website documents their experience as they learn to balance their careers and their love of travel. Their articles are a must-read for anyone looking to follow in their footsteps. Topics include the costs of full-timing, maintenance tips and inspirational posts to keep the RV fire burning.
RV entrepreneurs should read their detailed blog about converting their RV’s bunkhouse to a mobile office, which they did for under $200. For a more in-depth education about full-time RVing, they also sell online courses as part of their RV Success School, up to and including personal, one-on-one sessions.
Living on the road requires frugality, ingenuity and creativity, especially when you are working a full-time job. The blog, Do It Yourself RV, is packed with tips and tricks for thrifty and hands-on RVers. Articles range from storing shoes to refurbishing vintage trailers.
Bookmark this site or subscribe to their weekly newsletter. Their practical articles on topics like cooking, slide-out maintenance, finding wi-fi on the road and more will help reduce the stress of full-time RVing and allow you to concentrate on your job and your adventures.
Full-time RVing lets you enjoy outdoor activities and explore natural landmarks on a whim. But, if you are working 40 hours a week, it can be hard to find a regular time to exercise each day, especially if you are constantly on the road without a routine.
Full timers Stef and James both have extensive experience in the health field, and their blog, The Fit RV, offers great tips to stay in shape on the road. It features workouts, videos, healthy recipes and posts to inspire you to keep your body moving when you’re traveling.
