The South Eastern United States is a great place to road trip through to experience lots of different terrain from mountains to the coastal beachside. Kings Mountain, North Carolina is located near Charlotte, North Carolina and only about 20 minutes outside of South Carolina.

There is tons to do in the area and it is a great stop to make on any road trip, whether it's the final destination on your trip or just a stop along the journey. 

History of Kings Mountain

Kings Mountain, North Carolina was founded in 1874. It got its name from a Revolutionary battle fought just five miles south of the city. W.A. Mauney was the first man to establish a home, open the first store, build the first cotton mill and more in the city. 

Kings Mountain is continuing to grow, with a booming manufacturing, retail and agriculture industry.

Kings Mountain State Park

Kings Mountain Historical Museum

The Kings Mountain Historical Museum is a great place for families to explore as it offers educational and entertaining exhibits and events. Previous events include a World War II timeline, birdhouse workshop and more.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the grounds of the museum and check out a replica historic herb garden, the Robert Barber House and the George W. Cornwell House.

Crowders Mountain State Park

Crowders Mountain State Park is an adventurous place to check out on a trip through Kings Mountain. There are eleven trails with a variety of difficulty levels. Paddling, fishing, orienteering, rock climbing and picnicking are other awesome attractions to participate in at the park. 

This state park also offers a visitors center with museum-quality exhibits to learn more about the area. There is so much to do when visiting Crowders Mountain State Park, the whole family can enjoy.

Veronet Vineyards and Winery

Veronet Vineyards and Winery is a place to relax and enjoy the company of your friends and family. The winery offers a wide variety of wine, beer and plenty of non-alcoholic drink options as well charcuterie boards to snack on. There is lots of seating and tables indoors and outdoors.

Hounds Gateway Campground

Hounds Gateway Campground is a family-owned campground in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. It is near a lot of local restaurants and attractions such as the Gateway Trial and Kings Mountain National Military Park. At the end of the day, check out the drive-in theater and watch a recently released movie. 

There are 43 RV campsites, all including water, sewer and 30-50amp electric.

Glenwood Acres RV Park

Glenwood Acres RV Park is full of different amenities and activities to participate in during your stay. It is easy to access from all highways and is near lots of major events in the Charlotte area. This campground offers free Wi-Fi, on-site gas and convenience store and more.

It is near exciting attractions such as the U.S. National Whitewater Center, Carowinds Amusement Park, lots of shopping, state parks, historical sites and more.

Camp Golden Valley

Camp Golden Valley is Yogi Bear Jellystone Park Camp Resort. There are so many activities for everyone to enjoy. Use any water activities such as the interactive water playground, pool, water zip-line and water rentals to cool down on hot summer days. They also offer hiking, fishing, mini golf and so much more.

There are pulp-through and back-in sites, each offering a concrete pad, water hook up, electric and a fire pit.
