Motor Home Maintenance Continued

We are a few short hours away from the weekend and camping if the weather permits! In this blog post we will be discussing everything else you need to know when it comes to motorhome maintenance.

First rule in maintaining and protecting your motor home is that routine maintenance is a must. Below are some guidelines of what and when you should service different parts of your motor home.

Maintaining Your Motorhome Check List:

On a monthly bases:

• you should check the water levels of the battery
• run your generator with a load.

Every three months:

• Check the LP gas lines for leaks with soap solution or leak detector
• Test the smoke alarm and carbon monoxide/LP detectors
• Check operations of windows and hardware
• Clean air conditioner filters
• Check and clean all sealants (door, roof, shower, etc.)
• Tighten battery cables

Twice A Year:

• Inspect the slide-out for proper seal
• Change the smoke detector battery
• Rotate tires (as recommended by the tire manufacturer)
• Check gas appliances for operation
• Have LP system inspected by a technician

Yearly Maintenance:

• Have the roof and joints checked for seal by a qualified technician
• Sanitize the fresh water system
• Wax and buff the motor home

Tire Maintenance

Possibly the most important part of maintaining your motor home is maintaining your tires. Blow outs are extremely dangerous and can cause massive damage to the under body of your RV. You want to make sure to check your tire pressure before hitting the road. Also you want to make sure to look for tire rot and periodically check the lug nuts on your tires to make sure they are in good shape.

We also recommend that you cover your tires if you plan on parking your RV for a long period of time and that you move your RV every couple of months. Also installing a tire pressure monitoring system such as the nVision TMPS will indicated if your tire pressure is too low.

Storing Your Motorhome

Coming in second as far as importance in maintaining your motor home would be storing your motor home properly. When you go to store your RV you want to do the following:

• Turn off all water sources
• Turn off gas and combustion appliances
• Drain the water tanks and water heater
• Open up all cabinets and drawers
• Close windows
• Open a vent slightly for air flow
• For those in humid climates its a good idea to add a humidifier
• Cover your RV to protect from UV rays and help resist water damage.
