Jayco Jay Flight SLX Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

Written by Megan Hofheins | May 20, 2021

Jayco travel trailers have been a favorite of many RVers over the years. They have been America’s bestselling travel trailer for 14 years running and have been creating “generations of family fun for 50 years.”

And when you dive in, the brand does have a lot to offer. With a longer extended warranty than the industry standard, Jayco owners get 2-year limited and 3-year structure on all RVs built since 2020. Jayco also prides itself on the quality of their build and their focus on being eco-friendly by reducing waste and energy consumption with their RVs.

Let’s dive in a little bit more and discover what makes their SLX bunkhouse travel trailer such a great option for new RVers and families.

What is a Bunkhouse Travel Trailer?

Bunkhouse travel trailers are a popular RV choice for those with large families. Bunkhouses generally offer a full kitchen, bathroom, private master bedroom and private bunkhouse depending on the size of the travel trailer.

Bunkhouse travel trailers are typically towed by a bumper hitch. Depending on the length and weight of the trailer, they can be pulled by a variety of vehicles, such as an SUV or medium-sized truck.

How to Determine if You Can Tow a Jayco Jay Flight SLX

It is important to always  check your vehicle’s manual to determine its tow capacity before shopping. If you are not planning on upgrading your tow vehicle for the RV you buy, then you will have to shop within the tow limits of your current vehicle. The two Jayco Jay Flight SLX 7 floorplans we will be reviewing are the 174BH and the 184BS. These RVs are built on a fully integrated A-Frame. The 174BH has a length of 21-feet, 8-inches and the 184BS has a length of 21-feet, 7-inches. The gross weight of the 174BH is 3,950 pounds and the 184BS is 4,300 pounds. The 174BH can sleep up to five people while the 184BS can sleep up to six. These are great starter campers for families who like to get out into nature and explore!

Kitchen and Dining Area

Both of these floorplans come with homey touches such as brushed nickel faucets, seamless solid surface kitchen countertops, microwave, two-burner cooktop, compact refrigerator, overhead cabinets with hardwood cabinet doors, pantry storage and a booth-style dinette with a flip-up table across from it. The great thing about these dinettes is that it converts into a bed for extra sleeping space.

The main difference between these two RVs is that the 184BS has the dinette area on a slide that can be utilized to provide the campers some extra living space while parked.

Bathroom and Bedroom

These floorplans offer a private bathroom in the rear of the RV along with the 30 X 72-inches with bunk beds with 4-inch-thick bunk mats.

The private master bedroom is housed at the front of the RV with a 60 X 80-inch queen bed with overhead cabinets, three windows and a privacy curtain.

Exterior

The exterior of the 174BH and the 184BS both offer a cable TV hookup, LED exterior lighting, rooftop solar prep and a 10-foot awning.
