Top 3 Romantic RV Getaways on the East Coast

Written by Derek Cunningham | February 08, 2017

Roasting vegetables on a roaring campfire. Cuddling up with a blanket to watch the sunset. Sharing sticky s'mores under a starry night sky. What could be more romantic than RV escape with your loved one? To celebrate Valentine's Day, we have chosen three of our favorite destinations for RVing sweethearts. Next time you want to grab your honey's hand and flee for some time alone, consider these amazing spots.

Down East Maine

Visiting Down East Maine is the essence of a New England maritime adventure. It is the perfect destination for lovers who dream of watching the sun set over remote Atlantic waves. When arriving, take a scenic drive along Route 1 to marvel at Maine’s rocky, sweeping coastline.  Make time for side trips to visit the state’s iconic lighthouses and indulge in authentic, ocean-fresh lobster rolls.

Down East is home to Acadia National Park, the oldest National Park in the eastern US. RVers should make reservations at one of the many private campgrounds next door in Bar Harbor. Bond with your partner over exhilarating hikes and bike rides along the park’s many inspiring paths. If you are itching to get on the water, hop on a whale watch out of Bar Harbor or rent a canoe for an up-close marine experience.

Perfect for: Beachcombers, lobster connoisseurs, ocean adventurers

RV camping options: The Bar Harbor Campground, Bar Harbor/Oceanside KOA, Bar Harbor/Woodlands KOA, Bass Harbor Campground and more!

Pennsylvania Dutch Country

Quiet, peaceful and quaint, Lancaster County, PA is a charming retreat for couples looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The deep-rooted, local Amish community creates an atmosphere of simplicity, and you will be reminded of the essential priorities in life. Enjoy horse-and-buggy tours of the countryside and shop for world-famous, handmade Amish quilts for cool nights by the campfire.

If you want to spruce up your RV, spend a day leisurely browsing through the 3,000 antique shops in Adamstown, the Antiques Capital of the US, or visit the spring “Mud Sales,” where Amish communities auction off arts, crafts, food, and more. Visit the Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market to stock up on farm fresh ingredients for your campsite cookout. End your trip by cuddling up with your partner in a private hot air balloon ride for two over the rolling hills.

Perfect for: Antiquers, lovers of homemade food and crafts, seekers of tranquility and peace of mind

RV camping options: Old Mill Stream Campground, Beacon Hill Campground, Roamers’ Retreat Campground, and more!

Asheville, NC

Asheville is a culturally blooming, artistic retreat in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina. Couples can revel in the stunning beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains while hiking through the scenic Pisgah National Forest. Create timeliness photographs with your partner by posing next to waterfalls, rivers and foliage-rich mountain vistas. For non-hikers, turn off your car radio and drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway to be enveloped by nature at its most glorious.

After soaking in the invigorating scenery, head into town to experience Asheville’s unique and vibrant nightlife. The city is becoming a foodie paradise with renowned artisanal restaurants and a robust local craft brew scene. After dinner, head out to enjoy the city’s roaring music scene and dance the night away to the lively mountain rhythms that define Appalachia.

Perfect for: Hikers, outdoor lovers, foodies, artists and dreamers

RV camping options: Bear Creek RV Park & Camping, Asheville East KOA, Asheville West KOA, Campfire Lodgings.
