Written by Derek Cunningham | September 05, 2014

While RVing can be a cost effective and enjoyable way to travel, expenses can get out of wack if you aren’t careful. In this blog post we are going to outline some great tips and tricks to RVing on a budget!

1.) Don’t buy more RV than you can afford.

If you purchase an RV with a higher monthly payment then you can afford you have already started the RV lifestyle in under stress! Make sure when you are shopping you stay in your price range and stick to it as best as you can. Now there isn’t anything wrong with your payment being a few dollars higher a month than you had originally budgeted as you will probably won't miss it but make sure to keep the over spending in check so you don’t end up in hot water.
2.)Do your research:
Knowledge is the key to saving you money! Make sure you do your research on what common RV repairs cost, that way should a situation arise to  where you need your unit serviced you know what an acceptable range is for that service. Also make sure you do your research on RV insurance and get multiple quotes just as you would with your normal home or auto insurance and if you can pay your insurance annually instead of monthly to keep your cost down. Lastly, remember how we mentioned you should research common RV service expenses? You might want to consider and research different extended warranty options. Depending on the plan you choose for a few dollars a month you can avoid shelling out major cash should an RV repair arise.

3.) Join a Camping Club:

Joining a camping club is a great way to save money while RVing because camping club memberships often come with discounts on RV insurance, lower finance rates if you work with specific banks and discounts at Campground and RV parts and accessories stores! While some camping clubs yearly dues can be a little outrageous Amerigo RV you can join for as little as $9 a year! You will save that on your first discounted night at a campground. And FYI when you purchase your next RV from Campers Inn you get a free year membership to Amerigo RV…talk about saving money!

4.) Outfitting your RV:

Ok so you have done a great job staying in or on budget for your RV payments and insurance now its time to go crazy outfitting your rig right? Wrong! When shopping for RV accessories its imperative that you do it with a purpose that way you don’t end up speeding $1,000’s on stuff!

Make a shopping list, this goes for everything you plan on putting in your RV including food. When you head to a store with a purposeful list you will be less likely to impulse buy saving you money in the process. When you have a list next is to do your research on where you will be buying your products. You can purchase camping and RV accessories in a multitude of places, and ask the store you choose to shop at if they have a customer rewards program.
