It’s back to school time.
Many camping families are saying goodbye to summer vacation and packing their kids up for a new year of school. Open-end days of fun in the sunshine are turning into early morning bus pick-ups and late-night homework sessions.
It happens every year, but it’s always a little sad to put the freedom of the summer up on a shelf for another nine months.
Yet, we at Campers Inn RV don’t believe the start of school has to mean the end of camping adventures. Of course, between studying, extracurricular activities and all the other returning responsibilities, it can be a challenge to schedule time for an RV getaway.
But trust us, it’s worth it. Here are three reasons why you should take the family camping this fall.
A much-needed brain break
The start of school is a hectic time for kids and families.
Kids will meet new teachers, new classmates and new friends. They need to readjust to the rhythms of the classroom and tighten their learning caps for all sorts of new material. Parents need to reorganize their schedules to make room for sports practices, band concerts, PTA meetings and science fairs.
Families can be easily overwhelmed. That’s when the camper starts calling.
“Remember those quiet nights by the fire?” it says. “Those relaxing afternoons fishing at the lake?”
Try to plan one weekend after school begins to escape back out to the campground. The fresh air and tranquil atmosphere will help you and your kids re-center and process all of the changes that just swept over.
Experience the magic of fall camping
We all love summer for its long days, bright sunshine and lush abundance of nature. But, the autumn woods have their own delights to share.
Before Mother Nature settles in for winter, she waves farewell with a burst of joyous colors, as treetops bloom in brilliant shades of orange, red and yellow.
Every outdoor lover should make time to experience the wonders of fall camping. The foliage is breathtaking as it climbs up mountains and reflects off lakes. The soft bed of fallen leafs add a soothing crunch to hikes and nature walks, and the crisp air makes the warm, evening campfire even more comforting than usual.
Campers should also check to see if there are any seasonal events nearby. Fall overflows with festivals, state fairs, hayrides and haunted houses. Apples ripen for picking at local orchards, and fresh hot cider makes a delicious return.
Remember to pack extra clothes and blankets, as the weather can turn chilly, especially at night, but the rich rewards are worth throwing on a fleece or flannel to enjoy the beauty.
Get the family back together
When the school bell rings, it seems like everyone starts to go off on their own direction. The kids are in class all day. Dad brings them to their activities in the morning, and mom spends the evening rounding them back up. Dinners are rushed, and there’s little time to chat about the day before everyone scatters to do homework, watch TV or surf the web.
What happened to those nights around the fire singing songs, telling ghost stories and roasting s’mores? Or the mornings in a canoe spotting hawks, water lilies and turtles?
Families cherish their time camping because it creates unforgettable bonding opportunities without all the usual interruptions that compete for our attention.
When you start to feel like the school year is turning your family into a bunch of strangers that live together, hitch up your travel trailer and hit the road. Ask the kids to share their favorite stories from school so far, and let them know how excited you are to spend some quality time with them.
Family time is precious, and camping helps you savor every moment.
