5 State-of-the-Art RV Accessories

Written by Derek Cunningham | March 13, 2018

RVs have come a long way from the hand-built wooden trailers of yesteryear. Every year, manufacturers are debuting new technology to improve all aspects of camping: from internet access to automatic leveling to high-definition TVs.

Check out just a few of the most cutting-edge features you’ll find in a new RV.

1. Wi-Fi Boosters

Recently, more and more campgrounds have begun offering free Wi-Fi. However, those signals can be weak, and, depending on where your site is located, you might not have much connectivity.

Wi-Fi boosters are simple, easy-to-use devices which greatly improve your ability to receive Wi-Fi signals. Many connect to your computer through a USB port and use an external antenna to pick up the park’s Wi-Fi. Some, like the Winegard ConnecT, have data plans available, so you can get online even if your park doesn’t have Wi-Fi.

Forest River recently announced that the majority of their 2018 models will have a Wi-Fi booster installed.

2. Smart mobile controls:

Smart technology is becoming more prevalent in our homes, and now it is coming to our RVs. Leading the wave, Lippert’s OneControl® system is available on almost twenty 2018 models from a variety of manufacturers.

The OneControl® system allows you to monitor and control a wide range of functions directly from your phone or tablet. Through a touch of a button in the app, you can open or retract your awnings, set AC temperatures, extend slides, change the TV channel and more.

Most systems currently operate over Bluetooth and WiFi, but select RV models are beginning to offer ConnectAnywhere technology that transmits over cellular networks.

3. One-touch leveling

The days of wrestling with jacks and levelers are coming to an end. Today, many travel trailers feature one-touch leveling systems that make set-up a breeze.

Systems like Lippert Components Level Up®and Ground Control® offer automatic leveling through independently adjusting hydraulic and electric jacks. The systems are quick, accurate and easy to use.

RVers will love the ability to spend less time preparing their site and more time camping!

4. High-end entertainment systems

Never worry about a rainy day again! High-end entertainment systems have come to RVs. From HDTVs to Blu-ray players to top quality sound systems, RVs are giving home entertainment centers a run for their money.

For tailgaters, models like the Grand Design Reflection feature outdoor TVs and speakers to amp up the pre-game parking lot party. If you want to stream Spotify, Pandora or podcasts on your next road trip, Bluetooth-connect dashboards are increasingly becoming standard in motorhomes.

5. Solar power

If you love boondocking and RVing off the beaten path, look for RVs that come prepped for solar power installation. While expensive, solar power can open up new off-the-grid adventures for those with a taste for exploration.

Solar power isn’t for everyone. Many campers find electric hook-ups and generators work perfectly for their needs. But, if you dream of heading into the unknown, do some research to see if solar is right for you.
