3 Accessories to Improve Your Motorhome Driving Experience

Written by Derek Cunningham | May 23, 2018

Driving a motorhome is not the same as a driving a car or even a large SUV or pickup truck. RVs are longer, wider, less aerodynamic and more sensitive to wind, weather and adverse conditions.

Yet, RVers shouldn’t let these challenges get in the way of incredible adventures. We are highlighting three products that will help make your motorhome driving experience easier, smoother and more fun.

1. Sway bar

Sway, or body roll, is a common problem people experience when driving their motorhomes. This side-by-side weight shift can be unnerving, and it is caused by a number of factors, including turning, road conditions, wind gusts and unequal weight distribution.

While motorhomes generally come with sway bars installed, the OEM parts may not be as strong as you need. If you have trouble with body roll, consider installing a larger aftermarket sway bar. They are available for both front and rear applications, and they will help feel more at ease when you are traveling.

2. Steering control

Keeping a motorhome straight can be tiring when you take sharp turns, face crosswinds or encounter ruts in the road.  Drivers often feel like they are overcorrecting when they drive their rig in adverse conditions.

Steering controls, like the Blue Ox TruCenter, use hydraulics to absorb shocks and re-center the vehicle with a touch of a button. A steering control system will also help keep your rig steady in the event of a blowout.

3. Backup-monitor

Motorhomes are big and boxy, and they can be a challenge to back into a space without an assistant. Backup-monitors increase your rear visibility and help eliminate blind spots.

These devices are increasingly becoming standard on many motorhomes, but if your vehicle does not include one, you should put it at the top of your must-have accessory list.
