RV Spring Cleaning Tips

Written by Derek Cunningham | April 03, 2018

Camping season is in the air! After a long, dark winter, you can finally hear the campfires, sunscreen and s’mores calling.

There’s no better way to start the season than with a squeaky-clean RV filled with all of your gear. Follow these RV Spring Cleaning Tips to get your rig looking brand new!

Stock up on supplies

Before you start your spring cleaning, you’ll need to make sure you have all the cleaners, tools and supplies for the job. Review what you already have to see if anything is running low. Spring is also a great time to restock any parts or accessories that need to be replaced. Make a list and head to your local RV dealership!

Gather up your gear

Remember way back in the fall, before the holidays and cold and snow, when you boxed up all your camping equipment and squirreled it away for the summer? Now it’s time to break it out again!

Dig through your house, basement, garage and attic to find your gear. Inspect it all to make sure it is still in good condition. Be thorough: examine everything you’ll be using this summer, so you are not surprised in the middle of the season by a broken kayak.

Gear can include:

  • RV maintenance supplies
  • Kitchen accessories
  • Hiking clothes
  • Rain gear
  • T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits
  • Toiletries
  • RV decorations
  • Bikes, canoes, kayaks, ATVs and other outdoor recreation equipment
  • Fishing gear and tackle
  • Games, toys and sporting accessories

Get your RV ready

  1. Put on some summer jams to get in the mood.
  2. De-winterize and sanitize your RV’s water system (download our free de-winterization guide).
  3. Check seals and seams on your roof, windows, storage compartments and elsewhere. Apply new sealant to cover any cracks.
  4. Check your tire pressure and inspect the tread and sidewalls.
  5. Wash away all the winter grime and wax the exterior until it shines.
  6. Head inside and open up the windows to let in fresh air.
  7. Check for any critters that may have taken up winter residency.
  8. Break out your dust rag and wipe down every surface.
  9. Do a “deep clean” and scrub counters, appliances, floors and windows vigorously.
  10. Make beds with fresh linens.
  11. Rehang curtains and check blinds.
  12. Fill drawers and cabinets with cups, plates, utensils and cooking tools.

Once everything is sparkling clean, take a seat on your RV’s sofa and daydream about summer camping adventures ahead of you.
